Amway’s UK Losses Through the Years

Not only is Amway flat/declining in the UK in terms of revenue, but they lose money practically every single year. You’d think they were an Amway IBO! 1. My completely unsubstantiated theory is that the UK arm of Amway is losing money for tax reasons. They can sell product in the UK, then charge it back to other arms which are located in tax havens. I’ve heard stories in the UK of people (moving their income offshore) to pay less tax.. I don’t understand how it works but to me it sounds like a legal loophole which won’t be around forever

    1. You could very well be right. Amway was successfully prosecuted by the Canadian government in the early to mid 1980s, both criminally and civilly, for over $50 million. Another reason could be Amway is willing to operate at a loss instead of pulling out of the UK, as the negative publicity would be greater than the money being lost. Perhaps some of both of these, and perhaps other reasons.
